So now that Little Big Planet 2 (LBP2) is finally out and the dust has settled a little, it’s time to see how this game adds up, and whether it lives up to the hype or not.
The first Little Big Planet game was a huge success (with players making over 3 million custom levels) and the series has since developed a cult following.
One of the major worries with this game was that those people who’d spent so much time playing the original would see all their time go to waste. Fear not, however, as every level you made on the original is playable on this game, and every item you collected (including costumes) can be used once more.
Luckily the game’s creators haven’t toyed with the winning formula too much. What they have done, however, is add more to it. It’s clear that this game is all about creating things and expressing yourself, and they certainly haven’t limited that.
The game’s story mode (which can be played with up to 4 people consecutively both online and offline) is just as good as the first (if a little short), and the creators have really used this mode to show off every different feature that can be used in the creator mode.
So does it live up to the hype? I’d have to say that while it claims to have ‘revolutionised gaming’ (which I’m not so sure about), it is still a very solid game, and fans of the series will no doubt be happy.
